Pansy demo

Pansy Reference Photo
Drawing
Mask buds and upper leaves that stick above background
Start at one side and put a wet wash in watching that your edges don't dry. Vary the color from brownish green to ochre to simulate early spring lawn,
First wash on table
First was on pots
First wash on flower and leaf.
Reference painting for detail of flowers and leaves.
Second layer on table with blue gray to tone down reds.
Second layer on pots to ad shading on right side and then I begun to develop flowers and leaves.
I darkened bottom left of background to see how I liked it for contrast. I do but you do not need to go that dark. It is a personal preference. Began to add more plant foliage.
Added more warmth to background to add depth....still working it. Added masking fluid veins on leaves and started to add more shadows and depth to leaves and flowers.

Old barn door PM demo

PM reference shot
Draw with simple clean lines
Mask foreground goldenrod and light grasses.
Start with grey wash. Make sure you mix enough color for whole wall, if not no worries if the color varies. You can then splatter and/or add some darker tones while it is wet. It adds more interest. Then begin with yellow ochre wash on bottom reeds.
Next I added greens.
Then I began o add color to the door.
Now comes a little detail around the door. I just love the pattern of the rotting wood.
After adding a second layer of maskon the grasses and leaves, it's time to put in a darker layer of color.
I then continued with the door details and began to add some knots of wood and the fun little diamond hole in the wall.

AM Demo reference shot
This view shows the red door better :)

Another view, has good lighting and other possibilities.
I may do this another day :)
Another possibility

Drawing , keep it simple.
Mask goldenrod and grasses in foreground
Start with grey wash with a flat brush. Use a little less water than with the cold press paper.

Next block in big areas of color

I then started to build up door a bit more, mixing grey and reds blending and adding texture.
Adding a few shadows start to make it come alive!
Continuing with some darks , beginning with clapboards.
Next I added many more grasses and leaves with mask and then added a darker layer to foliage to start to add depth.
I also added a second layer of detail to background evergreens.
Not sure what I did here :) May be a duplicate slide....I'll let you decide :)
Continued to add darks below window on left and added the implication of missing cross board on door, by lifting some paint.

Color mixing chart for green and neutrals

Here is a simple color mixing chart to help you with greens , neutrals and darks.
