Yellowstone River Reference photo

drawing and mask~ Notice how branches and driftwood lead your eye into composition.

First wash on sky and marsh, adding clear water with rigger to imply grasses

first wash on mountains~ then added clear water to add implication of highlights and rock direction
first wash on foreground sand~ added salt to give organic pebble texture

next start adding shadows on marsh and lower grass on bank.

close up of water...painted the bottom stroke to show what NOT to do...grasses were not mowed.Blue bottom edge needs to be jagged grass like NEGATIVE shapes.

Continuing with water' adding start of reflections.

Added next layer of greens on hill and bank.

wiped out water above green grass to give more room for reflection.

close up of revised reflection.

wiped out mountain  reflection as it didn't match above shape.....I must have been talking too much :)

That's better.

Added sponge texture to foreground sand and a bit on distant mountain.

developing texture on mountain.

Adjusted color of marsh grasses.

Added to texture to mountain reflection.

Started to add texture in smaller scale to bottom left of sand bank.
More to come next week.

Added some horizontals in water, more purples in water reflections more detail in marsh grasses before peeling off mask.

Peeled of mask

Light wash on foreground tree add dark's while wet
close up of beginning of evergreen development. Leave some lights, more than what shows in photo
