Pm drawing. Remember to spend time on drawing and keep it as clean as possible. The more accurate the drawing the easier the painting will be !! Try to not have tree in front of barn too central!

Mask trees ans fallen leaves. 

Start with sky then put first layer on middle ground trees and then grass adding sienna while green is still wet. I put some salt in foreground to add organic texture.

First layer of barn, after wash laid in use damp flat brush to add vertical implication of barn boards.

Next I added some detail to middle ground trees and added evergreen on right.

Begin to add shadows on side of barn. Diffuse edges on roof and back.

Begin to add shadows on ground.

Second layer on shadows because they dried too light.

Peeled off mask on ground and then painted in orange and sienna leaves and integrated into earth.

Keep drawing as clean as possible and SPEND TIME on drawing. It will make painting easier and more fresh

Mask trees and fallen leaves

put in cloudy  sky then grey roof, foundation and base. add brown/ochre distant trees when sky still a bit wet.

Add other side of distant trees

Block in grass and fallen leaves. start with green and then add sienna and ochre while wet.. then I added orange maple in mid ground.

Next I added first wash on barn. Try to keep your edges as straight as possible.

Next I added dark in wood shed.

I then added greens for evergreens and shadows in mid ground trees.

Draw simple shapes but erase some if too dark.

First wash on sky and water.adding browns while blue is still damp.

Added brown sand and green grass in water.

First wash on hillside.

Added browns into green middleground while green was still damp.

Begin to add darker pines in hillside.

Began to add darks in foreground sagebrush.

Close up of trees. Remember to keep them lacy.

Drawing and masking fluid

Start with sky then move to first wash of water to let sky dry a bit. Then add first layer of distant mountain.

First layer of greens adding ochres and darks while still damp.

Add brown on banks and start to add evergreens. Remember to let your brush flick upwards and Remember to leave open spaces.

I added the trunk lines first to get height variation and direction up front, then I filled in the branches..

Another example of trunk variation of height and direction. Remember to think of music. :)

First layer on pine trees.

Began working on bottom sage brush and hummocks. I added another layer of mask to keep some positive leaf shapes, allowing me to go darker  at the base of each mound to give form.

I then added a darker sienna layer to the stream bank to give it the recessed depth. See how the masked grasses come in front of the darks.

I then added ochres and burnt  sienna to field and distant hill as well as some more vibrant green in the middle ground to give a little more umph.

Sorry I forgot to take picture of drawing :)
Here is first wash on sky and water

While reflection in  water was still wet I took a wet rigger brush and made horizontal lines to imply ripples in water.

First layers of grass

using similar color I added first layer of foreground grasses

While forground grasses were still wet I lifted some lights and added darker tones to add variation.

Next I added first layer on mountain letting the blue and brown mixture separate a bit.

While the mountain was still wet I added strokes of clear water to imply forms in mountain.

After mountain was dry I  began to add tree forms and masses. Remember to vary the shapes and sizes and use the trees to add directional flow to the composition.

More detail to hillside, adding some yellower green to harmonize with grasses.

Moving down to foreground grasses I added a second layer of masking fluid.Initial wash MUST BE DRY to mask!  Remember to overlap first layer in opposing directions. Let mask dry completely before painting. I then added a  darker wash over mask adding variation in greens to imply plant forms.

Next I darkened water and reflection of mountain. Remember to use a damp brush to soften edge between mountain and water. I added some crimson earth tone in lower fight of water to show shallow  riverbed showing through.

I then worked on adding some texture and rock planes in the mountain.

Added some darker dark's in foreground and lifted some green to allow for the light blue green of the foreground sage.
